Cosmelan MD Pre & Post Care Instructions

Cosmelan MD is a professional depigmentation treatment that targets stubborn pigmentation such as melasma, sun spots, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. It works by regulating melanin production and encouraging skin renewal.

PRE-TREATMENT CARE (1–2 Weeks Prior)

• Discontinue retinoids, glycolic/salicylic acid, or exfoliating products 7–10 days before treatment.
• Avoid lasers, waxing, threading, or aggressive treatments for at least 2 weeks.
• Keep skin well-hydrated with a gentle moisturizer and wear broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily.
• Ensure skin is free of active acne or open wounds prior to treatment.
• Avoid tanning, heat exposure, and prolonged sun before your appointment.

DAY OF TREATMENT

Arrive with clean skin (no makeup, lotion, or SPF). A degreasing solution will be applied before the Cosmelan MD mask. The mask remains on for 6-8 hours depending on skin type. Go home with the Cosmelan 1 mask on and shall remove with plenty lukewarm water at the end of the determined time. (No facial cleanser is needed). If the mask dries up in a certain area, you may sprinkle some purified/filtered water with a spray bottle. If you forget you have the mask on and scratch or accidentally remove a spot, just wet a finger in water and redistribute the surrounding mask to cover the spot. Sun exposure and heat sources must be avoided. After the removal of Cosmelan 1, you must start Melan recovery.

POST-TREATMENT CARE

Days 1–7: Healing & Peeling Phase

For the next 7 days, use Melan Recovery in the morning, midday, and night (or more often if needed) and Melan 130 pigment control in the morning and noon.
Expect redness, peeling, and tenderness. Use only Cosmelan home care products.
Avoid sun and reapply SPF 50+ every 2–3 hours. Use the prescribed repair cream as directed.

Days 7–30: Regulation Phase

Exfoliation and skin regeneration continue. Begin Cosmelan 2 cream on Day 7 (if directed), and has to be applied morning and night before Melan recovery. Continue moisturizer and SPF.
NOTE: If your skin becomes sensitive to Cosmelan 2, you can pause its use until your skin has calmed, then resume the regimen as directed.
Day 15: Return to the office for a follow-up and a hydrating session.
Day 30: Return to the office for a hydrating session and a touch-up application for stubborn hyperpigmentations (If needed). The touch-up mask must be removed 2 hours earlier than the initial application. Apply Melan recovery and Melan 130 pigment control on the rest of the face (not on a touch-up mask). Suspend Cosmelan 2 at home for 2-3 days after removal, but keep the normal application of Melan Recovery and Melan 130 pigment control.
If needed, you may purchase the hydrating masks for home use and come back monthly for a follow-up. Make sure the Cosmelan Home Pack is being used properly. You may need to restock on Cosmelan 2 and Melan Recovery. A complete treatment is 6 months.

FOLLOW-UP & MAINTENANCE

A follow-up appointment is recommended at 2 weeks, 1 month and as needed.
Maintenance with Cosmelan 2, Melan Recovery cream and Melan 130 pigment control mesoprotech may continue up to 6 months. Optimal results appear between weeks 4–6.

THINGS TO AVOID

• Direct sun exposure for at least 30 days post-treatment.
• Heat-based treatments (laser, sauna, steam rooms, intense workouts) for 2–3 weeks.
• Exfoliants, retinoids, or harsh skincare for 4–6 weeks.
• Picking or rubbing peeling skin — let it shed naturally.

• Severe irritation, blistering, or infection signs develop.
• Unexpected reactions or discomfort worsen after Day 3.
